Film Review: The Wonderful Miss Todd

the wonderful miss todd

When people say ‘truth is stranger than fiction’, they are generally correct when it comes to the weirdest tales that are told over with glee and fascination.

The Wonderful Miss Todd is a wonderful film about feminism, ambition, and courage.

And sometimes, truth is more fantastic than fiction. Women in aviation are, as a whole, an accepted minority. this doesn’t make it right, but it does mean that stories like those of E. Lillian Todd – the first woman to design and build an aeroplane – ripe and perfect for the inspiration needed to help reshape the perception of women in engineering.

Enter the most gorgeous, stop-motion short film-musical (think Disney, but with cut out pieces of paper) in a long time, Miss Todd.

Since it’s meteoric success across festivals and previews, it has since been turned into a book.

Watch to see what all the fuss is about:

Known for incredible student content, the National School of Film and Television presents ‘Miss Todd’, the work of Kristina Yee.

And for the official Miss Todd synopsis:

“It’s 1909, and the whole world is waking to the possibilities of flight. Miss Todd dreams of flying, but she’s got more than gravity holding her down. This is the story of her determination, her perseverance, and her passion – inspired by E. Lilian Todd – the first woman in the world to build and design an airplane.”
